About the job offer comparison calculator

Two job offers rarely differ on salary alone, and salary is the easiest number to be misled by. A higher base can be wiped out by a longer commute, thinner benefits or longer hours, while a lower base can win once you count what it costs you to earn it. Comparing offers properly means adding everything you receive and subtracting everything you spend to get it. Commute is the most overlooked cost. Fuel, fares, parking and wear on a car add up, and the hours spent travelling are unpaid work for your employer's benefit. An offer paying six thousand more that adds an hour a day of driving can be worth less than one that pays the same and lets you work from home, once you price the extra time. The effective hourly rate is the sharpest single test. Take the real yearly value — salary plus bonus plus benefits minus commute — and divide by the hours you actually work, including expected overtime. Two roles that look fifteen thousand apart on base pay can land within a few dollars an hour, or reverse entirely, because one quietly demands an extra ten hours a week. This calculator values both offers the same way and compares them on yearly value and effective hourly rate. It treats benefits as an annual cash-equivalent figure you supply, and ignores tax differences and pension details, which vary by country. Use it to strip the headline salary away and see which offer genuinely pays more for the life it asks of you.

This calculator returns estimates for general information only. It is not financial, investment, tax or legal advice, and it cannot replace guidance from a qualified professional who knows your circumstances. Figures such as loan payments, investment growth and retirement projections are simplified models based on the inputs and assumptions you provide, not guarantees of future results.
