About the currency converter (your own rate)

A currency converter needs just one thing to work: the rate you are actually being offered. That single number, not some mid-market figure from a website, is what decides how much of your money survives the exchange. This tool deliberately asks you to supply the rate, because no rate can be exact for every bank, card and broker at once — and because a converter that pretends to know the live rate while quietly using a stale one is worse than useless. The mid-market rate, sometimes called the interbank rate, is the midpoint between buy and sell prices on the wholesale market. It is the rate you will see quoted in news headlines, and it is almost never the rate you get. Banks and exchange services add a margin, and that margin — not a visible commission — is where most of the cost hides. A two per cent margin on a thousand dollars is twenty dollars, gone without ever appearing as a fee line. Transfer fees stack on top of the margin. A service might advertise a zero commission and still profit from a poor rate, or offer a near-perfect rate and charge a flat fee. The only fair comparison is the total received: enter the amount, the rate you are quoted and the fee, and this calculator shows what actually lands in the destination currency. Comparing offers on the final number rather than the headline fee is the single most useful habit in foreign exchange. This calculator converts with your rate, applies your fee, and shows the reverse rate and the cost of the conversion in both currencies. It fetches nothing and stores nothing, so your figures stay on your device. Check the current rate with your provider before you convert, and treat the result as the comparison it is designed to be.

This calculator returns estimates for general information only. It is not financial, investment, tax or legal advice, and it cannot replace guidance from a qualified professional who knows your circumstances. Figures such as loan payments, investment growth and retirement projections are simplified models based on the inputs and assumptions you provide, not guarantees of future results.
